Disco Inferno (Short - 2023)

Good morning, House of Madness residents:

Do you have any weird combinations? No, I don't mean padlocks, I mean do you ever combine two things that don't seemingly go together? I used to know someone that made peanut butter and pickle sandwiches, and to this day, I still can't comprehend how she thought that was tasty. From time to time I've been known to watch a hockey game while I read a book, and although that may seem counter productive, I find the two simultaneously quite relaxing. When it comes to being really off the wall, however, "Disco Inferno" takes the cake, and although that may sound fantastic, let me assure you it's a fruitcake, and it's been sitting on the counter for weeks.

A baby has been stolen by a crazed nun in a church, and before the priest even realizes what's going on, the sister has hanged herself and left the baby behind for him to find. Fast forward about 25 years, and there's a huge disco competition taking place in a brand new venue, which just so happens to be that very same church we witnessed moments before. As everyone rehearses and busts out their best moves in order to win over the judges, one contestant named Mel (Soni Bringas) is all of the sudden having visions of another time, and is seemingly being stalked by a malevolent presence. As two separate worlds collide, Mel has a close call with the entity, but is saved thanks to her boyfriend who barged in just in the nick of time.......or did he?

If the idea of a church turned into a disco sounds kind of lame, it's because it is, and the two formulas gel about as well as Donald Trump and a novel about honesty. With a runtime of only 19 minutes, there just wasn't enough substance to justify the means, and the entire story comes out flat and silly. Hopefully this doesn't launch a petition for a feature length film, because although demons and disco may sound like a good combination, the formula is more of a case for Pepto Bismal.

Madness Meter: 3.7/10
