Fear (2023)

Good morning, House of Madness scaredy-cats:

What is your biggest fear? I mean your REALLY biggest fear? I'm not suggesting a scenario about filling up your gas tank only to realize you've forgotten your wallet at home, I'm talking about what scares you to your core. Is it spiders? Scorpions? Snakes? No seriously, is it spiders? Although arachnids and snakes can be absolutely paralyzing to many, there are also an equal amount of people that welcome and enjoy these creatures's company. Weirdos. What about the dark? If you're in your own house, and can navigate your way through the blackness, it isn't so bad, but what if you weren't in your comfort zone, and couldn't see your hand in front of your face, let alone the potential horrors that could be lurking close by, ready to exploit your visual plight into the obscurity of their malevolent clutches? No? Ok, how about traversing a suspended bridge, 1500 feet above the chasm below, and the only sound other than the wind is the creaking and twisting of the weathered cordage that is most likely long past its expiry date? Perhaps the suggestion of an extended director's cut of "Tenet" is enough to make you cower in the corner of your panic room, normally reserved for eluding intruders or Jehova's Witnesses. Point is, what's scary to some isn't scary to all, and we each fear what we fear as individuals and not as a collective.

Alright, now we've established what our fears are (mine was the "Tenet" one by the way), how would you feel about having those fears exploited for everyone to see? No, not the old rubber spider on a fishing line trick, I mean someone with genuinely sinister intentions using your most intimate inner fear to introduce you to your demise. Such personal horrors are exactly what's happening in "Fear", and the unknown seemingly airborne entity is delivering the fatal heebie-jeebies. The celebratory weekend for this group of friends is one getaway they wish they could "get away" from, but once someone or something holds the key to your innermost fears, you'd best change the locks if you aren't prepared to deal with them head on; your life may depend on it.

"Fear" hits select theatres January 20, 2023......... unless you're too scared.
