Good morning, House of Madness doppelgangers:
Back in early December, I previewed "Infinity Pool", so if you'd like a brief synopsis and rundown of the film, please check it out here.
First off, if you're not into films with a social narrative, I highly suggest you skip right on by "Infinity Pool", as the narrative is poured on thicker than the gravy your grandmother used to make, but is twice as delicious if you're accepting of such devices in storytelling. Once you peel back the social commentary layer by layer, the omnipotent horrors trapped deep within slap harder than Dana White in a drunken stupor.
In a world dominated by classes, how would you feel about living in a society where social standing rules all if you were in the upper echelon? Sound familiar? Now, what if things were taken a step further, and not only do you live in a world that caters to you and your every wanton desire, but a place exists where you receive every luxury perceivable, and there are no consequences for any of your actions? Does this sound like a delectable fantasy, or does it sound more like Armageddon, where the rich shall topple the poor while taking zero prisoners? If you were at the top of the proverbial food chain, would you relish your social status and gorge yourself on the bottom-feeders, or would you struggle with the way the world works, and try and make it a better place for all?
Well, on the fictional island of La Tolqa, all of this is addressed and more; some are seasoned pros when it comes to basking in their high-standing brilliance, while another has experienced both sides of the social spectrum - almost simultaneously. Question is, when given the choice would you rather claw and fight your way towards a better future for yourself and others around you, or are you willing to step on the faces of those below in order to gain footing on the ladder of lucrativeness? For many, the choice isn't as simple as it seems, and if you reach the top, make sure you can live with the devious and deplorable decisions that got you there.
Madness Meter: 7.4/10
