Return to Silent Hill (2023)

Good morning, House of Madness pyramid heads:

Is there a franchise or film you wish you could re-do because the original maybe wasn't awful, but was definitely lackluster? Perhaps right now you're praising "The Super Mario Bros." movie, because the original back in 1993 was a complete disaster; Bob Hoskins didn't even know the movie he was acting in was based on a video game, if that clears up how well thought out that film was. Maybe you'd like to try taking a run at making "The Dark Tower" something more than the steaming pile of donkey shit the first one was; how the fuck did they think making 8+ books into a 90 minute film was a good idea!?  I guarantee there's an absolute gem of a film that these books deserve, and the next effort to bring Roland to the silver screen can only be miles better than the first feeble attempt. "Jeepers Creepers" was a fuckin hoot, and the sequel wasn't anything to sneeze at either, but parts 3 and 4 should be soaked in gasoline and burned to the ground, never to be mentioned again. They really had something to build off of in this franchise, but instead decided to shit the proverbial bed with awful scripts and bullshit CGI. Take two please! For me, I've always been a big fan of the "Silent Hill" video games, so as much as the original didn't stink, it left much on the table and even more to be desired. Sequel never happened, OK? I've always longed for someone to take another go at "Silent Hill" simply because it's a fascinating world that needs to be explored, and a rich story full of gruesome goodness that needs retelling.

"Return to Silent Hill" follows James, a man that receives a letter seducing him back to Silent Hill in search of his lost love. As the town he once knew morphs into a fog-filled land of hideous monstrosities, he will have to fight his way through the madness in order to not only find who he's looking for, but also to survive. If you've never played a "Silent Hill" game before, let me tell you that they're absolutely terrifying with how immersive and creepy the atmosphere and stories are. If either of the previous SH installments we've received were even a quarter as interesting as the games, we'd have had two absolute bangers for films; instead we were fed blasphemy. "Return to Silent Hill" has a real opportunity to restore my faith in a story about an unknown town; let's just hope they don't get lost in the fog.

"RTSH" is still currently filming, but is slated for a late 2023 release. I'll see you at the theater, hopefully we can find our way home after the credits roll.
