Sympathy for the Devil (2023)

Good morning, House of Madness goblins:

After delving into 1971's "Duel" yesterday,  I thought today would be the perfect opportunity to talk about another vehicular cat and mouse story, "Sympathy for the Devil". I purposely did this not only because the two films have a main theme in common, but because Nicolas Cage will be out of debt by 2187, so promoting his future projects seems the least I could do as a humanitarian.

As a man referred to only as "The Driver" (Joel Kinnaman) is being forced to drive a mysterious individual known as "The Passenger" (Cage), he finds himself in a game of cat and mouse where things aren't what they seem, and the stakes couldn't be higher. Kinda sounds like "Collateral" meets "Speed" minus the bus....and the bomb.....and the need to go 50 mph or the car will explode....ok, it's nothing like "Speed", I just wanted to talk about it because I like movies about public transit ("Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, I'm looking at you). Instead of "Speed", I should have gone with "Ryde" (2017) or pretty much any Liam Neeson movie.

Regardless of what the film entails and what road it brings us down, I'm sure we'll be in for some intense, over the top, non stop white knuckling thrills, and I'm not just talking about Cage's acting prowess. As much as I joke about Mr. Cage, I am 100% a fan, and I always look forward to the 200 films he churns out each and every year. That's dedication folks.

"Sympathy for the Devil" hits theatres in 2023, and it looks to be a hell of a ride.........
