The Exorcist: Believer (2023)

Good afternoon, House of Madness demons:

There are certain things in life that are best left alone. That wasp's nest hanging high up in the maple tree in your backyard is a nuisance, but if all you have to engage in a battle of the bees is a hockey stick and some misplaced bravery, you'd best call a professional, and keep the fuck away from what will surely be your demise. Unless you're prepared to venture down the tunnel of doom, it would probably be in your best interest to just say "That's nice!" when your spouse walks in and proudly displays their newest unnecessary purchase, rather than opening a can of worms so large, you will most likely be consumed by the vile venom that will exit their mouths in rebuttal of your disapproval. That fart you've been holding in all the way home from Wal-Mart because you had tacos for lunch? Best not to get cocky and press that out with all your might, or you may just have yourself an underwear enchilada to deal with, and the walk from your car to your bathroom is a long one, especially when you're packing meat heat. When it comes to films, I have a list of which I hold high in the regard of "Don't fuck with", and "The Exorcist" has always been one of them. I personally didn't care for either of the sequels and have always treated the film as a standalone piece of brilliance, but this newest installment heading our way makes me nervous, especially since it's apparently going to be a three film commitment.

In "The Exorcist: Believer", a family is being tormented by two separate demons inhabiting their two daughters, and is in desperate search for families that have experienced this phenomena before in order to help rid themselves of their little demon problem. Well, I guess it's pretty obvious who they're going to be talking to in order to help get a grasp on their situation, and help exorcise their family's demons.

As such a huge fan of the source material, I'm just leery that they're not necessarily going to taint its legacy, as it really can't be affected, but more that it will associate the word "Exorcist" with all the other tripe that's been released in the last twenty years, with few exceptions. Now, I'm aware I'm being very pessimistic and the film(s) could be absolute masterclass, and I honestly hope that's what they will be, as I don't enjoy bad films, especially when they're based on one as beloved as this one. All I'm saying is that it's a dangerous project. Please don't suck. "The Exorcist: Believer" hits theatres October 13th, 2023, and you can check out the trailer here.
