The Tall Man (2012)

Good morning, House of Madness abductors:

Is a heinous act really so heinous if the end result is good? If you saw someone get pushed off of a cliff, and then looked over the edge to see they landed on a gigantic pile of money, would you still be up in arms and calling the proper authorities, or would you accept the initial malice considering the positive outcome? Sometimes an awful thing needs to be done in order to accomplish a good thing, but as is with everything, perspective is key when taking into account everyone involved in the final outcome. I swear that time I ate my ex-girlfriend's ice cream was simply because I was worried about her cholesterol,  and sacrificed my own in order to save her life in heroic fashion. I have no idea why we broke up. Oh well.

Cold Rock is a dead town; so dead that the homeless outnumber the housed. The few people left that can provide a service to make ends meet still struggle, as most of the town's populace can't afford to pay for their services. People wander aimlessly, while children play in the streets using nothing but their imaginations to help pass the long, uneventful days. Well, the children that are left that is - there seems to be a bit of a child abductor problem ravaging the town, and rumour has it his name is "The Tall Man", a gigantic being that steals and murders children for his sheer delight. This has been going on for years, and the society of children is dwindling at an alarming rate.

What at first glance seems like a straightforward film about a monster in the woods that likes to eat children, quickly morphs into something far more complex and sophisticated. Does the evil Cold Rock is experiencing actually have supernatural undertones, or is the mystery far more personal than a fairy tale monster running amuck through the night? For the children of Cold Rock, someone other than the ever bumbling police force will need to take charge and provide answers, lest all the children become forgotten memories of the past, leaving parents questioning their own sanity as to whether their existence actually took place. True closure may be on the horizon for their sad little town, but will the answers they're given be enough to end their suffering, or will they have to be satisfied with a martyr taking responsibility for their misery without providing any real explanation? Time is rapidly running out for the children of Cold Rock.......or is it?

Madness Meter: 5.8/10
