Top 10 Out of This World Horror Movies

Good morning House of madness lifeforms:

Today I thought it might be fun to discuss our favourite interstellar fables of the horror variety, and touch base on some absolute classics. For the record, I'm not including films taking place on Earth invaded by aliens; for the most part these movies take place on a ship, or somewhere galactically different from our own - sorry "Gravity". I'm sure there will be many differing opinions than my own, so please feel free to add your favourites in the comment section below!

10. "Dead Space: Downfall" (2008) - Yes, it's animated, and yes, it's based on a video game franchise, but the animation is extremely well done, and for a cartoon, the atmospheric sense of hopelessness and dread are very real.

9. "Jason X" (2001) - I've touched on this before, but this film makes this list simply from creating the greatest kill of all time. If you're unfamiliar with what I'm talking about, give it a looksie for yourself; it's quite smashing and in your face. The rest of the film is decent at best, but that's irrelevant.

8. "Europa Report" (2013) - Now this is a cool little flick that flew under many radars. There are plenty of tough choices to make when 678,000,000,000,000 miles away from home, and the tension filled dilemmas they face in this film really hits hard.

7. "Sunshine" (2007) - Taking place 50 years into the future, "Sunshine" asks us what we would do if the sun began to die, and delivers an electrifying yarn of thrills as mankind's last hope must succeed if Earth isn't to fail.

6. "Moon" (2009) - OK, I kind of broke my own rules with this one, as "Moon" isn't technically a 'horror' film, but the first time I watched it, I couldn't help feeling an almost claustrophobic calamity due to the isolated plight Sam Rockwell has found himself in. Earns a spot in several genres in my opinion.

5. "Life" (2017) - I have no idea why this film received so much hate. I assume it was mostly due to a stellar cast that had people's expectations miles above their rooftops, but if you take it in as the simple creature feature it is, the film is quite enjoyable.

4. "Apollo 18" (2011) - Another film basically tossed aside by the masses; well, the ones that actually bothered to watch it anyways. This flick is genuinely scary, and left me with one of the most severe cases of the creepy crawlies I've ever experienced. Highly recommend.

3. "Alien" (1979) - The alien film that changed how people viewed outer space forever. Never again would Sigourney Weaver be anything to me other than Ripley. The atmosphere, effects, and story are all top fucking notch, and that's ten-fold to me considering it was released in 1979.

2. "Aliens" (1986) - Nothing to see here, only one of the greatest sequels ever made. Other than "Terminator 2", I'm hard pressed to think of another follow-up to the original that hit harder than this one. Fucking masterpiece.

1. "Event Horizon" (1997) - Speaking of masterpieces (review here), "Event Horizon" is the 'piece de resistance' when it comes to cosmic terror. The idea of a ship coming back from Hell and bringing something with it is horrifying, and this film hit it out of the fucking park and straight into orbit.

And there we have it folks, my top 10 out-of-this-world horror(ish) movies. As I mentioned earlier, feel free to drop your fave(s) in the comments, and we can discuss why my list is better than yours......
