Good morning, House of Madness Cagers:
Considering my latest review of "Renfield" was pretty much a love letter to one Mr. Nicolas Cage, I thought it might be fun to pay more homage to one of Hollywood's finest. I'll leave the "Con-Air" and "Leaving Las Vegas" lists to someone else, as this list concentrates on his horror ventures, which are quite plentiful. Let's begin!
5. "Mandy" (2018) - If you've never seen this little gem, I'm not surprised; a lot of the films Cage stars in are buried in the archives, just waiting to be discovered. This film will take you on a bizarre, blood-splattering gore fest for the ages - it deserves much more credit than it has garnered thus far.
4. "Mom and Dad" (2017) - Much like "Mandy", "Mom and Dad" snuck under the radar, as is apt to happen when you churn out the absurd amount of movies Nic Cage does every year. Be that as it may, "Mom and Dad" is a brutally violent good time that's light on story, and heavy on maiming.
3. "Willy's Wonderland" (2021) - For all of you that like to complain about Cage's acting, this might be the perfect film for you, as he never utters a single word. Cage simply obliterates demonic robots from start to finish in ways that would leave Jet Li wide-eyed and speechless.
2. "8mm" (1999) - For the longest time, this was my favourite Nic Cage film. I can't quite put my finger on why I enjoyed this film so much, but its ambiance simply wooed me from my first of many viewings. Add Peter Stormare into the mix, and you've got a helluva good time.
1. "Renfield" (2023) - No surprise at #1 if you read my review of the film; this film is charming, witty, gory, blood-soaked, and hilarious - often all at once. It's by no means a masterpiece, but Cage's performance is, and that says a lot if you've ever had to endure a "National Treasure" sequel.
There we have it folks, my Nic Cage top 5 horror list. Think yours is better? Maybe I left one of your faves off the list? Comment below or send us an email letting us know what you think - we'd be mad excited to hear from you!
