Good afternoon, House of Madness minotaurs:
Imagine being gifted a beautiful home in the Irish countryside, surrounded by nothing but trees, grass, and all of nature's beauty. Now imagine all of those things with just a dash of family tradition, carried on for centuries before you. Now imagine all of those things with maybe just a sprinkle of evil creatures that want blood on a daily basis or they'll fuck you up. Hey, it was free, so you take the bad with the good. Sounds nice!
That is the basic premise for "Unwelcome", director Jon Wright's latest offering in the creature feature department. If you've never seen "Grabbers" (2012) then I'm afraid you've done yourself a disservice, and should rectify that oversight ASAP. That said, "Grabbers" was a horror/comedy that focused heavily on the silly, whereas this time around, things seem to be geared much more towards the gore than the giggles. If the notion of "Gremlins" meets "Gnome Alone" sounds silly, you're probably right. However, if the trailer for "Unwelcome" still leaves you thinking you're in for an afternoon of the sillies, you have a sense of humour only a mummy could love. Guts, gore, blood, and violence never sounded so frighteningly delicious, just make sure it's consumed every day before 7........or else. "Unwelcome" hits theatres January 27th, 2023. Don't be late.
