Watch Out

Ever since Sean Marchment was little, he had a bad habit of losing things. Toys? Gone. Homework? Vanished. Wallet? Seeya! It wasn't that Sean was stupid, he was above average in intellect, but he was definitely absent minded; one time he went on a date, headed for the washroom, and proceeded to drive home until halfway there he realized he had completely forgotten about the woman he was at the restaurant with. There was no second date, for obvious reasons. Nowadays Sean had a chain on his wallet which attached to his jeans, his keychain was expertly fastened to his belt loop with a carabiner, and when his glasses weren't on his face, they were neatly slung around his neck with a strap. The one thing Sean still struggled with was keeping his phone at the ready, as he had lost more than he'd care to admit by simply forgetting them at a booth in a bar, or on the seat of the bus on his way home from work, and with the prices of phones these days, his absentmindedness was becoming costly.

While perusing through Best Buy on his day off, Sean spotted something that grabbed his attention immediately, and quickly went to find a sales associate to answer some simple questions. "Excuse me?" Sean said shyly to a worker who was surely half his age but twice as tech savvy, "Does this watch have a feature that can help me locate my phone? I'm always misplacing it, hahaha". "Of course!" the associate said, "It will beep for finding it locally, or you can even track your phone if you leave it behind somewhere", and that was enough to seal the deal for Sean.

On the bus ride home Sean couldn't help but feel a little excited about his latest purchase, yeah, $500 was a lot of money, but compared to the $2000+ he had spent on replacing phones over the years, it seemed like a bargain. When he walked through the front door of his apartment, Sean's excitement forced him to overlook the fact that his door wasn't locked, but most times he forgot to lock it anyways, so the matter was forgotten before it was even processed. Sean greedily tore open the packaging, and spent far too long getting his new contraption to pair with his phone, and learning all of its incredible features. Not only that, but it wasn't long before Sean was pressing the button on his watch to locate his phone, as he had left it on top of the microwave after preparing his dinner. "This thing is amazing!" Sean said to nobody in particular, and headed to bed.

As Sean woke up around 1am as he usually did to take a piss, he couldn't help but notice his phone wasn't on the nightstand beside his bed where he was sure he had left it. He began to reach around blindly in the darkness and then remembered his new acquisition, and promptly pressed the button in a groggy state. "BEEP BEEP BEEP" his phone called out from the living room, and Sean spotted it on the coffee table sitting next to the TV remote. "Weird, I coulda sworn I brought it to bed", he said, but before he could overthink it, Sean was back in bed sawing logs and dreaming of better things. "BEEP BEEP BEEP" Sean heard as he was startled awake, and as he looked at his new watch, he noticed it was only an hour later. "What was that….." "BEEP BEEP BEEP" he heard again, and realized it was coming from the kitchen. Sean quickly sat upright and grabbed for his phone which he had just retrieved not even an hour prior, and was terrified to discover it wasn't there. "What the fuck!?" Sean screamed into the darkness, yet all that answered him was another "BEEP BEEP BEEP". Sean carefully and quietly crept up from his bed and out into the hallway, turning on lights as he made his way towards the sound of his phone. He grabbed a baseball bat from the linen closet where he kept it for just such emergencies, and proceeded to inch his way down the corridor towards the sound of his phone. "BEEP BEEP BEEP" the device screamed at him one more time, and just as he walked up and snagged it from its perch on the kitchen counter, he noticed that instead of an iPhone, the word 'Samsung' stared him straight in the face, and by the time he saw the reflection of the face on the screen behind him, he was already dead.
